Top Gear host 'serious but stable' after 300mph crash
Julia DayThursday
September 21, 2006
BBC Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond was in a stable condition in hospital today after a jet-propelled car in which he hoped to break the British land speed record crashed while travelling at 300mph.
Hammond, 36, was in a "serious but stable" condition this morning, according to the hospital treating him.
"There's been some improvement overnight but Richard remains in a serious but stable condition," said a spokesman for Leeds General infirmary.
No further information was issued at the request of Hammond's family, he added.
Rescue crews cut into the wreckage of the car and dragged out the unconscious Hammond after the accident at the Elvington airfield, near Leeds, at 5.45pm yesterday. He was flown by helicopter to the hospital, which has a specialist neurological unit.
Fellow Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson visited Hammond in hospital today.
He said: "[Co-presenter] James May and I are at the hospital in Leeds where Richard remains in intensive care. Obviously at this time both he and his family are the most important concerns we have.
"It must be devastating for his wife Mindy and his two utterly adorable children. I would just like to say how heartened Richard will be when I tell him just how many motorists and truck drivers on my way here wound down their windows to say they were rooting for him. Both James and I are looking forward to getting our hamster back."
Michael Harvey, the editor of Top Gear, said: "This wasn't a high performance car, this wasn't a road car; this was a rocket-powered dragster which bears absolutely no relation to the kind of cars which are the main fodder of the Top Gear programme. This was a car that clearly contained its own risks."
The BBC said it would conduct an investigation into the accident and would cooperate with the police inquiry.
"We are pleased to hear that Richard has improved slightly overnight, but we continue to be concerned about his condition and we are keeping in touch with his family," said a statement from the corporation.
"The circumstances of this accident will be fully investigated by the BBC, and this process began last night. We will, of course, be fully cooperating with any investigation by the police and the Health & Safety Executive.
"Until the BBC's investigation is complete, it would be inappropriate to comment on the details of what happened."
As much to the dismay of all Ateneo fans who wants this game to end today. Well just pray harder for monday.
The whole time even from the end of the first quarter the UST Growling Tigers already dictated the game. Like I always predicted if UST is way gone 10 pts more during half time, itll be difficult for ateneo to go back. Just that, to really beat Ateneo is to spate them with points early in the game. No easy spot-up plays for Tiu. They just can't give it all to Intal especially if theyre trailing that much. And the fact that their (Ateneo) defense was somewhat invisible during that game is pretty darn convincing UST win. Kudos to Ababou for stepping up. Great hassle plays for him.
Sometimes though, i just dont like the physicality of the game when its really heated up.
ADMU could be physical sometimes BUT to UST it means business in that department. Break it or cripple it for them. Hahaha! no fucking way!
Better to settle with trash talks.
When I play, I do trash talking sometimes but Its a matter of niggling your defender mentally.
i.e:
"Yo mama is so fat, she sat on a quater and a booger popped out of George Washington's nose!"
Just Kidding!
The mini-run of Ateneo during the 3rd quarter didn't even nudge the UST players. They just continued what they did best. Dominate the boards, flow those 3 pters and Duncil the hot hands. (Hassle plays)
Even with Evangelista seating down for early fouls, there was just no way for Ateneo bringing back their game. Missed shots and more turnovers. Momentum's not on their good side.
With a 1-1 standing... this game is even more interesting. Rubber match gives you more chills than the previous ones. This means its more heart-pounding, jaw dropping, electrifying 3rd game action. :D AND DON'T FORGET.. the 18,000+ crowd attendance in an extended game means MORE REVENUE!
**Escalona is still in the same dire rhythm. Im not convinced with his jump shots and those overly artistic lay-ups. The way he shoots its pretty awkward.
**Kramer and Al-Hussaini aint that calm and composed though kramer did muscled up with the big guys of UST but their shots in the perimeter where way in a hurry.
**Tiu was quite the checkmate of UST players. everywhere he goes someone really trails for him. no easy all-day 3 pt shots.
**bench points was not on the right figures for Ateneo, UST though did well on that area.

in short, my laziness saved my ass. :D
not being in the Visayas means i aint stuck in any ports coz of cancelled trips due to bagyong Milenyo. That would be a bummer.
"God grant me the senility to forget the people i never liked, the good fortune to run into the ones i do, and the eyesight to tell the difference" We ended up snuggling with each other around 4am and woke up around 730am. Went out to eat breakfast at McDonald's. After that, we then said our goodbyes. She went home and I went back to my place. back to sleep and woke again past 9am. checked on some mails, finishing some work, then took a shower after.. got dressed and wrote this... I think id be goin back to bed a little later. :D *Exhausted* Thank God for San Juan! hahaha! *************************** Read this article if you have time...
What time was it when i lost my connection..? I did bid adieu at my taggy but i wasnt able to tell maan that im logging off. Well, it wasnt what ive expected to do right away.
Pao (Paolo Antonio "F." for FuckedUP) on the other hand came whisking in my room and shut everything off i didnt even hear the ABRACADABRAAS! Even i was too late to react. (stood up and cussed) He didnt really mind what i just said and he just told me to dress up and left the room.
Anyways i did what i was told to do. Put em twister jeans, shirt and sneakers.
Went out and asked, "So what's up?"
Like as if nothing have happened. Pao told me that we were going to a friend of his' bday party. That friend of his was someone i already met before, he did introduce me to HER. and knowing its gonna be her my eyes gave this involuntary evil grin. :P
*does ur eyes grin too?* haha!
And so we went, actually it took us another hour and a half coz Pao told me to buy her a gift.
I was, what? do i really have to? you don't have any for her and why would i buy?
Okay Fine. we went to the mall browsed for a couple of things.
It took me long BECAUSE I DONT HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT SHE LIKES.
We ended up infront of a flower shop. well, the safest gift of all... FLOWERS.
Bought a posy of flowers (roses in alternate white and light blue's) I told the lady to keep it simple yet elegant.
After paying for the flowers, we went straight to the Restobar where the party's gonna be.
Pao introduced me again to her and them (his and her) common friends. I greeted her a Happy Birthday and gave the flowers. She smiled and in turn gave me a kiss on the cheek and whispered thank you.Ohwee.......!!!
(i looked at Pao *dazed and confused* and he grins back)
I thwacked him and ask what's all that grin thang.
He responded. "She's available and digs you. NO PLAN. How about you?"
and replied. "Huh?Me?"
Then we head on where all the other crazy people at. We were about 20 peepz in the corner all happily eating, drinking and talking.
Later that night a bunch of em heads to the bar for their own mini dialogues with one another while us (less than 10 peepz) was also chatting, pulling out old jokes. Well good thing they talked mostly in english.
Okay ill tell youa lilo something about this Birthday Girl.
She turned 24 yesterday, she's pretty much in whitey-yellowish skin toned kinda girl, boobies like those of siopao buns *i just ate siopao that afternoon*, not much on the ass section though just enough to muscle up with :P, chinky eyes *coz she's half chinese*, long black hair, about 5'9 and has this soft pale yet shiny lips...
in other words..
"She was slender as a willow shoot is slender -
and equally graceful, equally erect" - (Frank Norris)
and
"OH MOFO, DELICIOUSOOOOOOO!!!" (Me)
and by the way her friends call her CJ. *Camille Julianne*
A little later she and another girl went to the restroom while Pao and I was talking.
then as she went back to the table, she then sat beside me where there was a huge space available since some peepz left already. The sits were long black ones so there was no space in between us. We talked about almost anything. work, my place/home, my stay, her bday, her family, her lovelife(which was vacuous for months now) which by the way SAME AS ME.
BUT the larger part of the talk was about Sex Life, how sexually active yada yada... and she was quite open about how she missed that for yeah again MONTHS since the last one was her last ex-Bf.
NOW aint it pretty obvious where this leads to? hahaha! The hints were clear so i took the chance.
When the party was over she went to Pao and told him that she's giving me a ride home. Pao was in all heavens "YEAH SURE you two go ahead". Then we went back here at my place.
Back here...the real party just started.
*spare you the details, play with your imagination coz all i can is............................
it was just freaking HOT!!!!*
Where could i get some KRISPY KREMES!!!!!!!!!!!!???????????
*10:00am @ the diner*
while eating breakfast i saw an old lady reading a local newspaper and the headline says:

LOL sorry bout the translation.

"if you are what you eat, I'm Dead meat!"

a friend gave me a ride when i went to buy DS tapes but instead of buying i ended up checking some books at National Bookstore.
When i found some interesting books to buy i was a bit shocked to find out that i don't have my wallet with me. well, i did grab some money at my desk when i hurriedly went out of my room.

Just one 50 peso bill, 4 five peso coins and 10 one peso coins in my pocket.
oh dear...how'd i forget to slip my wallet inside my back pocket..???!!
I texted my friend if she brought an extra money with her and if i could borrow, unfortunately she did not bring much, she only have enough money for something she really needs to buy.
And that there was no ATM Machine linked to her bank nearby. *bummer*
So i stayed at National Bookstore browsed more books, stood and roamed around for almost an hour since she's gonna come by and pick me up and send this poor baby back at my place.. XD
oh well. good thing i had free rides. i dont think the money i had that time was enough to pay for taxi fare.
I was suppose to travel today my destination would be the Visayas, but got too damn lazy to buy the tix but instead I went out to see a movie, Grandma's Boy. The film was a sort of an indirect walkthrough for newbie stoners.
Subject Name: STONED 101
Duration: 2 hrs
There were only few viewers but you can still hear them laugh at some dialogues.
Well,I was also stoned...since i've had a bucket of popcorn again.
I think im already addicted to popcorns, even when am not watching any movies im craving for POPCORNS all the time!!!!
Saw some interesting movie trailers I'll prolly watch The Prestige and The Departed.
Its monday and its HOUSE night.. not to miss any episode! My week wouldnt be complete if i can't see Dr. Cameron... geez... Is it me or she really is sexier this season? hehehe. And i so wish i was Chase in this episode. ehermmm.. (if i was doing her i hope she's not DOPED. no crystal meths ei.)
Am annoying, arrogant, pain in the ass and self-centered as House but not as smart as he is. :D
on the side:
I have this little project that I haven't started yet. I'm making a personalized Lamp Shade, a gift for a girl friend of mine. A Thank You gift before I leave the country.
I think I bought enough materials already. Its just that I wanted to work straight on the project at hand and not to be distracted due to the lack of materials that I so wanted to put.
I like doing little things, little crafty stuff. and back home I don't really buy all the materials. I try to recycle as much as possible depending on what Im able to put togther those scraps in one knacky little piece. (Im a closet artist. hahaha! so i thought.)
*reminisce*
The most unusual thingie that I made was a toy for Amicah. She's a friend from High School and she told me not to buy anything fancy or to not even spend a dime for her 21st bday gift. Fine by me.
So what I did, (recycling)
I got this thin tube-like ballpen holder/case as the structure of the gift.I then cut a semi-hard gluey block which I shaped into a tube, where it could fit inside the tube pen case itself.
At my mini workshop, I had this box full of my busted, broken, old fugly toys (name it, its there). I got a metal stick from one of the RCs and covered it with a spring in a natural perfect fit.. I also took the RCs motor which was still working fine. i then connected that stick-like metal w/ spring to the motor and tried it with a battery to test if it can take the weight of the metal and spring to eventually make it spin, and yes it did.
And from that, i designed and made a battery holder and a base for the motor (which was custom-LY shaped to be handy, handy enough for Amicah) and stuck the whole thing of that metal stick w/ spring inside that piece of gluey tube that i cut and HOLED earlier..
Which leaves only a shape of a handle where the motor and the battery is placed.
To give it a soft feel to the tube's surface I rolled out and flattened a modeling clay. Then I wrapped the tube with that flattened clay and cut the unwanted extras.. And now making it shaped like one normal D-O-N-G.
To make the clay unmolested when being touched i covered the whole thing with glue, which makes it elastic and UNdetachable after being dried.
With a little changes for looks and durability, Voilà! My First ever HANDCRAFTED VIBE!
Amicah was so fuckingly shocked when she received my gift.
I remembered how she cussed the whole time after she got it. and yes it did came with a box of prelubed dotted condoms. hehehehe! oh yeah battery's included too!
want to order? call 1-800-Hazims-Toys
or visit me when im naked in my bed. Thank You.
Vettel to see out 2006 with BMW -00- http://www.formula1.com/race/news/4933/765.html Ferrari confirm Raikkonen, Massa for ‘07 -00- i think this will be best for kimi since mclaren's just so off with their pit stop crew. ferrari and renault has a fast crew and having him in one of the best i guess will boost his career more. it went still this season after those loses.. pit stop problems... took em too long to get out that's when he lost most of his race position.http://www.formula1.com/news/4993.html

BMW Sauber have confirmed that Sebastian Vettel will
continue as the team’s third driver for the last three races of the season.
After successful Friday outings at the Turkish and Italian Grands Prix, Vettel
will now also drive in China, Japan and Brazil. The 19-year-old German was
drafted in last month as a temporary replacement for Robert Kubica, who had been
promoted into Jacques Villeneuve’s race seat. After an impressive debut in
Istanbul (where he topped the times), Vettel was retained for Monza (where he
was also quickest) and now he is looking forward to the challenge of
Shanghai.“The circuit is a new one and looks quite tricky,” commented Vettel. “I
have seen a lot of drivers on television making a lot of mistakes. There's a
high-speed straight, another straight and a hairpin corner. It will be difficult
to find the right braking point. I'm looking forward to gaining a lot of new
experiences in China."Along with his Formula One duties, Vettel is also busy
racing in the Formula 3 Euroseries. He will compete in Barcelona this weekend
before heading to Shanghai to join up with BMW Sauber.

One of the longest-running rumours in the Formula One paddock was finally confirmed on Sunday when Ferrari announced that McLaren driver Kimi Raikkonen will join the team next season.Raikkonen has signed a three-year deal, covering the 2007, 2008 and 2009 seasons. His team mate will be Felipe Massa, the Brazilian’s contract having been extended until the end of 2008. Luca Badoer stays on as Ferrari’s official test driver."Whilst I have taken the decision to leave Team McLaren Mercedes, I want to stress that I really enjoyed my time with the team,” said Raikkonen. “I have the deepest respect for everybody and will be giving my all in the remaining races." The Finn has been with McLaren for the past five years, scoring nine victories, 10 pole positions and 321 world championship points. His place at the team will be taken by world champion Fernando Alonso, whose 2007 partner will be revealed by McLaren before the end of the year.Paying tribute to Raikkonen, McLaren boss Ron Dennis commented: "I have enjoyed working with Kimi over the past five seasons and as a team we have achieved a lot of success. He is a very special driver and obviously everybody at McLaren wishes him all the best in his future career. Looking forward we remain confident that our 2007 line-up will be a strong and exciting one."
A perfect example of GREAT basketball was shown during the Finals first game between the Blue Eagles and the Growling Tigers.
Forget the 3 quarters and 9 minutes and 30 seconds of 4th. Just remember the last 30 seconds and how it stopped at the last Tick-Tack!
You'll never know who wins until the fat lady sings.
Just a second remaining in the game, the UST Growling Tigers was already prematurely celebrating a supposedly game 1 victory with their team up by a point.
BUT just as they say.... THE BALL IS ROUND.
with that ONE LAST SECOND of the game, the jawdropper play happened...with only one last play...one last shot...one last chance to LEAD AND WIN the Finals Game 1 of UAAP, The ADMU Blue Eagles was able to shift an auspicious result to their side.
Credits to the brilliant and unsuspecting play of Coach Norman Black. gave 3 decoys and an open Doug Kramer who by that time already INFRONT of the basket (too late for his defender to harass that winning shot) for an easy & breathtaking scoop shot! which resulted to a pandemonium effect to the Ateneo crowd.
Coach Black to Coach Jarencio: Ahah! Were you thinking of a 3 pointer this time? :)
A steal is never a victory - So don't act like you're Superman saving the day who by the way leaves a SECOND still in the gameclock, you just would'nt expect that the person you have just guarded will turn out to be your own personal Dr. Doom. Giving you a demoralizing shot at the very last sec of the game.
(offtopic sort of: i hope my ex a grad from UST won't find me blogging here and actually read this entry, i just like to fret around with her. :D)
UAAP board should check how the court refs officiated the game, better yet put on a new set of refs next game.
Especially when that "controversial call" happened. The inbound pass which was intercepted by JC Intal during that UST last possesion play. Intal has the centercourt line sundering both his feet away from each other who was then able to tap the ball during inbound, eventually he jumps to grab the ball for a supposedly steal but as he landed the ref whistled for a violation against him.
(I think there wasn't an established position by Intal during the first sequence yet so when he landed afer grabbing the ball that should be the time the ref should've consider counting everything else not even way before he taps the ball, the guy doesn't have 3 feet so his feet were in some way neutralized by the centerline. how can that be a violation..?)
Probably Ateneo got the most calls against them during rebounding due to pushing the other players (still outhassled most of the time in rebounding good for them the have Laterre to hops and pops around) but did you see when Tiu almost used his entire body and face mopping the floor? same with Arao who also was obviously shoved by Cruz while trying to outpost each other, (well, sometimes other refs knows how Arao could flop a lot most of the time, so better lessen those overacting pushed scenes)
oh not to forget that unfinished jam by JC Intal which they (the refs) probably thought that it was either a block or just a mis-dunk. but the replay showed that there was contact from the defenders hands and arms.. well unless he's Vince Carter a facial would be very easy even with those annoying hands and arms in contact.
Your hand is considered a part of the ball so its a no call when someone tapped you there but JC was hit on his arms so it was supposedly a foul.
but anyways that'll be history since they still won the game. :D
(one more thing... I think Escalona is forcing his shots.. that attitude is just a pain in the butt.. tsk!tsk! don't force the issue try to stick to the plan. limit ball hogging)
maybe they could change refs who can run faster and make calls better. hehehe.
i like Cuan's quickness but most of the time his legs just can't hold on that long (EAT BANANAs, Philippines is abundant with these fruits) and he should develop a better jump shot and a 3pters, especially his playing point.
Jervy Cruz is one amazing discovery. Has a good footwork and his moves inside is just great plus his perimeter shooting. well i say he'd be a hell to guard to the next season.
